How far is Shan at Uley from Leh?
Shan at Uley is around 75–78 km from Leh, approximately 2 hours by road, depending on weather, road conditions, and stops along the way.
Is acclimatisation required?
Yes. We strongly recommend spending at least 2 nights in Leh before travelling to Uley, especially for winter expeditions, trekking, cycling, or longer stays.
What is the best time to visit?
Summer: June to October for village life, wildlife walks, cycling, trekking, outdoor dining, and stargazing.
Winter: November to April for snow leopard expeditions.
How many nights should I stay?
For summer, we recommend a minimum of 2 nights, while 3 nights or more is ideal. For winter snow leopard expeditions, we recommend 6–8 nights in Uley, along with 2 nights in Leh for acclimatisation.
Is Wi-Fi available?
No, only a personal phone hotspot can be used on request. It works for basic use such as WhatsApp, email, and light browsing, but speed may vary.
Which mobile network works in Uley?
BSNL works okay. Other networks such as Airtel, Jio, and Vi usually do not have service in the valley.
Are meals included?
Meals depend on the package or meal plan selected. AP includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while MAP includes breakfast and dinner.
Can dietary requests be arranged?
Yes. Please inform us in advance about allergies, vegan meals, gluten-free requirements, lactose intolerance, or any other dietary needs.
Is Shan at Uley suitable for families?
Yes. Families are welcome, and activities can be planned at a relaxed pace depending on age, comfort, and season.
Can snow leopard sightings be guaranteed?
No. Snow leopards are wild animals, and sightings depend on weather, movement, terrain, and natural conditions. Our team and spotters make every possible effort, but sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Do I need to carry cash?
Yes. ATMs are available in Leh but not in Uley, so guests should carry enough cash for personal expenses, tips, and extra services.
What should I wear during wildlife tracking?
Warm, comfortable layers and muted natural colours are recommended. Bright colours should be avoided in the field.
